IMPORTANT PAPERS

Syllabi serve several important purposes, the most basic of which is to communicate the instructor’s course design (e.g., goals, organization, policies, expectations, requirements) to students.

All students are allowed to make up points lost due to absences, excused illness, and excused injuries. Students are required to make up points by completing 30 minutes of continuous exercise outside of school. Students will also have to complete a “PE Point Recovery Worksheet”. The worksheet must be completed by the student but signed by a parent or guardian.

Standards spell out what students are expected to learn in each grade and each subject. Each state Department of Education creates standards for schools within the state. These standards become the basis for the way teachers are trained, what they teach and what is on state standardized tests that students take.

Here you will find many helpful documents that students may need throughout their time in Stephens physical education. If you do not see something here please feel free to contact your teacher and they can send you the proper paperwork.

FitnessGram is a fitness assessment for youth, first developed in 1982 by The Cooper Institute. The assessment includes a variety of health-related physical fitness tests that assess aerobic capacity; muscular strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility; and body composition. Scores from these assessments are compared to Healthy Fitness Zone® standards to determine students’ overall physical fitness and suggest areas for improvement when appropriate. The Healthy Fitness Zone standards are not based on class averages or any other peer comparisons. They are criterion-referenced standards that are based on levels of fitness needed for good health. The standards are set specifically for boys and girls of various ages using the best available research. [ http://www.fitnessgram.net/ ]

Each grade level will complete a pre-test, mid-test and post test then take time to reflect on their scores and achievements. Each worksheet above has reflection questions as well as follow up assignments that are based off an Oregon State PE Standard.

The weight room contract serves as a collaboratively created framework for behavior expectations in the classroom. Students and teacher work together to design an agreement for classroom norms, rules and consequences. To achieve ultimate student ownership, contracts are agreed upon by all class members.

Adaptive PE is very different than our general education PE courses and differs from our general aide courses. This class requires a lot of additional help from peers in the building and the expectations are set at a higher level. Due to the nature of the course additional training is set-up.

Adaptive PE TA students will act with the utmost respect and maturity at all times. The attached document outlines the expectations in detail.
